Hey Beautiful!
It’s time again to plant seeds and set new intentions in the hollow of a new moon! This one happening on November 20th is especially fertile. I’ll get a little nerdy explaining why, then I’ll share the main takeaways for leveraging this new moon as your cosmic coconspirator.
Of the 10 “planets” used in astrology, 7 are in water signs making a grand trine (triangle), and 8 are directly engaged in some aspect to the new moon.
That’s 70-80% of the planetary sky giving energy to this new beginning.
And it’s happening in the sign of Scorpio, which is inherently transformative and potent. It’s deep and dark like a water well. And the newness of the moon makes things even darker.
It’s like the collective is being baptized in the watery void of this grand trine, if we choose. Even the retrograde motion of 5 planets feels to me like submerging below the surface. So I’m curious to see what emerges when each of these planets goes direct again. What will they have dredged up from the depths of their inward journeys? Treasure? Truth? Truth as treasure?
This new moon is also directly opposite the planet Uranus, holding tension with the ruler of shocks, surprises, freedom, breakthroughs, liberation, and the future. This new moon is not an eclipse, but it bears a resemblance for that reason. It’s a nudge to let the old version of something die and be reborn into a higher state of consciousness with greater truth and authenticity.
The new moon itself is conjunct a Mercury cazimi, which is when Mercury meets the sun. Mercury cazimis are times of clarity and internal revelations. So this new moon is also giving full moon vibes. Even though it’s a dark sky, things may still come to light. But the true meaning of what’s uncovered may still be murky for a time.
The feeling I got writing this was a slingshot or bow and arrow. It could be all the triangle shapes in the chart. But a bow and arrow is also symbolic for the zodiac sign of Sagittarius, where Scorpio’s ruler Mars will be hanging out during the new moon.
Combining all of that astrology with the numerology of this being a 2-11 month and a 9 universal year, this new beginning is primed to be a definitive one. The 2-11 energy during a grand water trine with new moon in scorpio could increase psychic, ancestral, and spiritual connection. And 9 is the energy of completions, endings giving way to the start of a new cycle.

You can view the chart of this new moon above if you’re a fellow astro-nerd 🤓. I also wanted to include the chart for anyone who’s never seen an astrology chart before! This is a relatively simple one, but it helps illustrate how much data goes into a typical horoscope reading and why it’s possible to have multiple interpretations or experiences of astrology. If you want to dive the depths of psyche, emotion, and truth, this is your new moon! Here are just a few simple practices that can facilitate and support your journey within.
Journal! Even if the week feels uneventful, I encourage you to journal throughout the week so you can reflect back on this week in 6-18 months from now as life unfolds.
Track your dreams! This can be part of your journaling process or a separate practice. You don’t have to understand them right away, but with the water energy of this new moon, remember intuitive and psychic connection will be heightened.
Bury and/or Plant Something! Some of you may find ways to do this in a literal sense, but we can do this symbolically or through visualizations by imagining in our mind’s eye the process of burying a specific thing. Use your imagination here, and follow your own lead as to what you bury and/or plant. What comes to mind is that saying: “They tried to bury us, but they didn’t know we were seeds.”
Research! This doesn’t have to be old-fashioned, academic research, though it could be. I encourage you to simply find out more information about something that’s tickling your imagination or curiosity at the moment. Maybe something you previously stayed away from because it seemed “silly,” “frivolous,” or “strange” to others.
Talk to Your Therapist! This is an aspect of research in the sense that it can help you learn more about the topic of yourself and your psyche. Scorpio rules psychology, and with this cazimi you might get a good revelation. If not a formal therapist, consider who else or what else might be similar, i.e. the journaling recommendation.
Commune with Ancestors and Deceased Loved Ones! Scorpio season is a great time to reflect on loved ones who are now on the other side. Scorpio rules all things death related including life after death and reincarnation. There are simple ways to do this, such as merely sitting and thinking about them, talking to a photograph of them, creating an altar with their photos and names and lighting candles for them, returning to a place they loved, or even just visiting their gravesite. Scorpio also rules graveyards and cemeteries.
Work with Water! Take a special (spiritual) bath. Sit by a lake or ocean. Practice scrying in a pool or bowl of water. Listen to rain or river sounds. Do visualizations of water. There’s a reason baptism is used as a symbol for death and rebirth. In dreams, clear waters represent birth and spirituality. In science, we know Earth has life because Earth has water. Drawing back to the sling shot/bow and arrow analogy (swidt) the sensation of being pulled back and held in a state of tension could feel quite uncomfortable, even painful. Yet it’s most important that while we’re in this position, we aim our focus on the compelling destiny that will pull us forward again.
And what exactly has to happen before we can be propelled forward again?
Release. Surrender. Opening up and letting go.
