Here's My Hope for You + How I found a "dream job" I wasn't even looking for.

Fill Your Cup ☕️ and Fulfill Your Destiny 💫

Fill Your Cup ☕️

Hey Beautiful!

I hope you’ve had plenty of opportunities to bask in Blackness this month. Of course we do this all year, but like a birthday or anniversary, it can be nice to designate special time to do it big!

At Dr. Sarah’s Café, we understand the importance of filling our cups. One way I’ve been doing this recently is spending quality time with Black women ancestors. For example:

Reading their literary works, like the novel The Salt Eaters by Toni Cade Bambara:

“Are you sure, sweetheart, that you want to be well? …
Just so’s you’re sure, sweetheart, and ready to be healed,
cause wholeness is no trifling matter.
A lot of weight when you’re well.”

Or spending time at my altar, taking in their imagery, and reflecting on their biographies.

Intentional time to reflect on the inspiring legacies of people who’ve paved the way, and allowing their spirits to enrich our souls now, is a powerful practice for filling our cups. And it’s something we can do all year!

Fulfill Your Destiny 💫

It’s okay to love your work, your job, your “role,” as I’ve been calling it recently. So much magick has happened since I moved to NYC in November, and most recently I’ve attracted a beautiful opportunity to teach poetry and spoken word to youth in Harlem. And it’s not “just a job.” It feels like a specific role of service and contribution I now have within my community. And here’s why I believe it’s divine alignment:

  1. I wasn’t even looking for work. While walking around my neighborhood, I saw this place and wanted see if I could maybe volunteer just as a way to get plugged into the community. By way of looking into volunteer opportunities, I stumbled upon this role!

  2. It felt remarkably “on the nose” that I was not searching for it, yet I discovered a position that both excites me and perfectly matches my work history.

  3. All the parameters: Teaching (a core element of my soul’s purpose), no grading or testing (the dealbreaker that made me reject traditional teaching), part time (so I can retain flexibility as a multi-passionate person), and my favorite part: ”complete creative control.”

  4. After I interviewed, I went to bed that night, and every night until I officially got the offer, with giddy butterflies in my stomach. “Your body always knows.” (which is also how I chose my apartment, lol)

I’m sharing this story because I recently told it to a friend who encouraged me to tell it more often. My hope for you, dear one, is that you never stop seeking to connect with community and that you remain open, attentive, and responsive to the synchronicities in your life and the butterflies in your stomach… ✨🦋✨

What’s Brewing? 👀

I’m thrilled to say that just as of yesterday afternoon, I officially have a spot in the 2025 New York City Marathon!!!

My social media followers know it was a recent personal goal of mine to run my first ever marathon this year. And now it feels like even more of an honor that I get to participate as part of fundraising efforts for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, an organization that’s also dedicated to healing.

As the founder of Colorism Healing, my mantra for this training journey is:

Healing is not a sprint, it’s a marathon

I will be documenting my training journey on social media all the way up to and beyond race day on November 2nd.

You can support my goal and more importantly help to sustain the important work of St. Jude right here! All donations go directly to them, which makes it easy 🙂

To-Go/Takeaway 🥤

Our lives are always speaking to us. Make sure to lend an ear.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sarah
