I had it all wrong... Dr. Sarah's Newsletter

January 29, 2025

I had it all wrong.

Have you ever had that revelation before? Where you have a sharp moment of clarity that completely changes your perspective on the past?

I’m having one of those moments right now.

When this happens, we have to give ourselves grace for not understanding what was really happening while it was happening. In moments like these, “hindsight is 20-20.”

My misunderstanding involves you, in some way, since the thing I had “wrong” was the direction of my public and professional work, of which this very newsletter is part of.

I had been so focused on the idea of “pivoting” — pivoting away from more than a decade of life’s work. I made multiple attempts to understand, grasp, wrap my head around, name, and articulate what I was dealing with. And I was wrong.

What I received as a crystal clear diamond of clarity just the other day is that my spirit was not restless for a pivot—my soul was merely longing for expansion. I thought I was in the midst of a pivot, but my higher self lovingly delivered the truth that I was in the midst of a massive evolution for every aspect of my identity and life.

I was being derailed so I could be realigned to my soul’s greater purpose.

Sounds kinda lofty and woo woo, and that’s really how it felt. Without that uncomfortable period of inner wrestling (thankfully my soul won!) I probably would have continued to run away from the higher calling of my spirit, my life, and my public work.

Luckily, this is right in time for the Lunar New Year! So, let’s begin again, shall we?

The Takeaways:

  • Baby, sometimes you can’t worry abut understanding it. You just gotta get through it.

  • Breakdowns, chile, really can lead to breakthroughs.

  • We are never alone, even in times of deep confusion, fear, or chaos.

Of course this expansion is still happening. But now, I’m learning to let it flow, which happens to be the Flavor of the Week 😉

What’s Brewing? 👀

📚 I’m writing a book on colorism!

A few months ago I discovered a super simple strategy to overcome my writer’s block and write more words with more ease — writing by hand! I know it could be hard to believe that this would do the trick, but it’s worked wonders.

I still have a few months left of writing, and I aim to keep the fam updated along the journey.

Cheers to words — “hundreds of pages pages pages for words” — all flowing at the speed of ink! (Let me know if you caught that reference 😉)

🏠 New Year in New York

My digital nomad days have culminated with a permanent move to Harlem, NYC! Like many people who are connected to this city, I have big dreams. And, yes, my brick and mortar café is still one of them! I will be building sustainably for the long term, not rushing it. If you’re nearby and want to grow community, let me know!

💛 Future Collabs between Colorism Healing + Dr. Sarah’s Café

I’m finally feeling ready to revive my social media content, especially on Instagram. What’s inspiring me the most right now are the overlaps between Dr. Sarah’s Café and Colorism Healing, so I’m exploring the connections in creative ways that will bring a lot of value to both communities.

Happy Lunar New Year 🌙🥳

Till next time, Love
