Sprung on Spring: The Wisdom of a New Season

Hey Lovely!
We know March is a month of change and transformation as the equinox marks the official transition into a new season—Spring in the North, Fall in the South. And we in our human bodies, are as much a part of the natural world as the water, the soil, and the fuchsia blossoms of azalea bushes, a flower I learned to love in Louisiana landscapes.
Yet we humans often forget this and act as if we are exempt from the seasonality of life.
No matter how much I think I understand the ebbs and flows, the cycles and seasons, I’m still caught off guard when my body and my life are made anew.
My body said: Girl, I’m trying my best, but I need you to do your part …
My life said: Guh! IKYFL! 😅
And who am I to argue with my body and my life?

Dr. Sarah and her matching spring rose
Yesterday was a lovely reminder of the beauty of surrendering to your new season. Enjoying the warmer weather in NYC, I met up with a kindred spirit in the East Village, where we discovered the gorgeous Plant Shed café, and were literally “given our flowers,” to quote my friend. One of the staff bid us farewell by offering us each a beautiful, long-stemmed, pink rose.
Yesterday was confirmation in so many ways that the little Sarah inside of me, my inner child, who lost all sense of time daydreaming, talking to trees and imaginary friends, creating characters and worlds on paper with words and drawings, who was obsessed with the Lynette Jennings Design show at 12, who recorded a walking tour of Harlem on the family VCR and rewatched it like a favorite movie, the Sarah who’s high school dream home was shaped like an octagon, who would become a young woman brought to tears by the magnificence of a sunset…
That sense magick is once again budding and blooming within me. And it is my intention to let her bask in the sun rays of a brand new day.
So here’s to honoring whatever season you’re in and, if you’re up for it, celebrating the infinite renewal of life. Happy Astrological New Year to those who celebrate 🥳 !
What’s Brewing? 👀
Romanticism
I recently announced that I’m in a season of rest when it comes to my YouTube content. This coincides with renewed energy and interest in returning to other social platforms I’d neglected, but doing so in the energy of magick and romance. Dr. Sarah is in her Romantic Period (a nod to my fellow English majors!). A huge part of my Colorism Healing burnout was the pressure and obligation to “fight.” In this season I’m removing the cape. What’s going to sustain me now is not rhetorical fighting but spiritual frolicking.
Marathon Training and Fundraising!
Deep bow of gratitude for everyone who’s contributed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of my marathon fundraising campaign!!! 🙏🏿 If you’d like to give any amount, you can donate directly to St. Jude here. If it’s easier, you can also Venmo or Cash App @ColorismHealing.
I’m feeling good about my training progress, especially now that the universe has sent me to running resources and running communities right in my own neighborhood! 🏃🏾♀️ Black runners and runners of other races who’ve completed marathons themselves and just want to share their love for running.
My next major milestone is my first ever Half Marathon (13.1 miles) on April 27th, the Maybelline Women’s Half!
If you’re near Central Park that morning, keep your eyes peeled for me. Not sure what I’m wearing yet, but I’ll keep you posted, lol.
Love,
Dr. Sarah
